Is Your Brake Warning Light On?
The brake warning light can indicate many different things, depending on the type of vehicle. Make sure that the light is not indicating that the parking brake is on. When in doubt, you can always check your owners manual.
Caused by: Pads worn down to electrical sensor. Some cars have this feature instead of the metal indicator.
Solution: Inspect brake pads and replace if needed. 
Caused by: Pressure loss in half of the brake system.
Solution: Check brake master cylinder and/or brake proportioning valve for proper operation. 
Caused by: Brake fluid level low.
Solution: Inspect system for leaks, replace components as necessary.
