Does Your Vehicle Need Excessive Pedal Travel To Stop Vehicle?

If it takes excessive pedal travel to stop your vehicle, use these solutions to fix the problem. Many of these problems will get worse as time goes on, so find the cause and fix the problem as soon as possible.

Caused by: Very low fluid level or leak. The hydraulic brake system is a closed type system, which means that if the brake fluid level continuously drops, there is a leak somewhere.

Solution: Find and repair leak, bleed the system of any air in the fluid.

Caused by: Air in the system. Brakes may have overheated.

Solution: Inspect brake system for leaks. Replace faulty components and bleed brakes. Consider upgrading brake parts that will resist overheating.

Caused by: Worn master cylinder seals can’t create enough pressure to activate brakes.

Solution: Replace master cylinder and bleed brakes.

Caused by: Excessively worn pads or shoes.

Solution: Replace worn pads/shoes.
